General Field and Surrenden Farm

These are great places to view field birds like bob o links and redwing blackbirds, with Mt. Monadnock in the background.

Parking is easiest off Farmers Row (Rt 110) heading to Ayer. It is the first right after Joy Lane. Proceed straight to large paved area. There are two large fields bordered by woods. These are great places to view field birds like bob o links and redwing blackbirds with Mt. Monadnock framing the view. One can loop one or both fields using Shirley Road.

Hawtree Conservation Area

Parking is best at Hawtree Way cul de sac, but also possible on Raddin Road. Eagle Scout, Alex Platt, has built a lovely viewing platform overlooking the wetlands so many water birds can be seen. Trail is well marked. If accessing from Hawtree Way cul de sac, go left at the mail trail junction. The platform is on the side of a small hill overlooking the wetlands.

Groton Hills Conservation Area

This is a good place to view forest birds, like warblers. Parking is best at Kailey's Way cul de sac and there are five other abutting conservation parcels, so plenty of area to explore with well marked trails.
